Collection: Clara van Staden
Clara van Staden is a South African artist whose practice is rooted in a lifelong passion for drawing and painting, an interest she has carried since early childhood. Although her creative journey paused at times during her university years and professional commitments, she consistently returned to art, exploring a wide range of mediums and subject matter along the way.
In recent years, van Staden has focused on a dedicated series of commissioned pet portraits, completing an ambitious collection of 100 works celebrating beloved animal companions. This body of work reflects her belief in the emotional depth of the human–animal bond, capturing both living pets and those who have passed as lasting keepsakes for their families.
Her work is guided by the idea that pets are deeply significant members of the family, offering unconditional love and companionship. Each portrait is created with sensitivity and care, aiming to honour not only the physical likeness of the animal, but also its personality and presence.
Through her art, Clara van Staden transforms personal memory and affection into timeless visual tributes.
